It's no secret; I do not enjoy flying! As much as I enjoy vacationing, I do not like flying to get to my destination spots. With that being said; I still fly. I'm just a nervous flyer (if that's even a word).
However, if this guy started off every flight I went on, I might settle a bit easier.
Check out this video! I think I would like to hire this man to fly with me; except he'd have to rap during take-off and landing too!
Friday night I had the pleasure of going to the Handbags for Hospice for the second year in a row! A fun-filled night with ladies, great food and of course HANDBAGS!!!! It was a successful night yet again and I am so pleased I could be a part of it again! Listen to the John & Liz show Wednesday morning when Leslie Farrell joins us to reveal the grand total raised at the 2nd Annual Handbags for Hospice!
Saturday – my little man’s 3rd birthday – we packed up and headed over to the 11th Annual Family Literacy Day at St. Mary’s High School. Dan Henry and I were guest readers again this year! It’s always so fun to read to the kids; though I think Dan’s book had the attention of the kids a little more then mine did (he pulled out the Lightening MacQueen and Mater adventures vs. my Pokey Little Puppy story). My kids loved meeting the Paws for Stories dogs and Clifford the Big Red Dog; my son had the most fun chasing the Oxford EMS Band-aid Bear around. But perhaps the highlight for them was getting a free book!!! If you know my household, you would easily guess that we came home with a Princesses book and a Cars book!
Here’s the birthday boy with his big sister and Clifford the Big Red Dog at the Family Literacy Day.
After seeing Taylor Hall’s freak accident during warm up on Tuesday night, I was left thinking two things; how freaking bad did that hurt and how could you ever go on the ice again for warm up with out a helmet?
If you didn’t hear about this, what happened was, Tuesday night during warm up Taylor Hall stepped on a puck, crashed into another player; the two of them crashed into the boards and into the path of another player. The third guy tried to jump over them but ended up stepping directly on Hall’s head; a skate blade directly to Hall’s head! After 30 stitches, some serious swelling and bruising, Hall is saying he might play Saturday – he says he needs to put helmet on first and see if he can take some bumps! Dude, have you looked in the mirror??? You have a giant gash on your forehead; how is a helmet going to feel on that?!?!? Take some time to heal boy!
In all seriousness though, this could have been a lot worse; potentially deadly. The skate landed just inches from his eye; that could have been career ending. Is it time for the teams or the NHL to step up and say that helmets will be mandatory during warm ups?

Here’s a photo the Edmonton Oilers released Thursday – WARNING!!!! It is pretty gross; not for the weak stomach type!
I think the title of this entry is pretty self explanatory; should sheep shearing be an Olympic sport?
The only time I watched sheep shearing was when I was 5. If you grew up in Oxford County then you’ve probably visited the Field Study Centre near Innerkip and you probably met Woody Lamb. I remember watching Woody Lamb (yes, I know…Lamb…sheep…kind of ironic) shear a sheep when I was 5 and I bawled my face off because I thought he was hurting the poor thing because it kept ‘bawing’ over and over again. I've grown to realize it in fact does not hurt the animal; perhaps slightly scares them, but we all need a haircut from time to time.
Now I’m not asking this question because it has been on my mind; I ask after I read an article about a farming lobby in New Zealand wanting to get sheep shearing into the Olympics. The lobby group says sheep shearing has the potential to become a demonstration sport in the Olympics and points out that the world’s top shearers are “athletes who take it to another level”. Now you may or may not know that New Zealand has some of the best shearers in the world and they host the world shearing championships in March. Some info for you; in the article I read that one shearer sheared 507 sheep in 8 hours! That’s crazy!!!
So, what do you think? Should sheep shearing be an Olympic sport? Tell us your thoughts on our Listener Poll today.
And so it has begun….volleyball season at Heart FM!
Now, I have not played this sport since I was in public school – I believe it would be about 20 years now since I last attempted to be a “volleyball player”.
Heart FM has joined the Woodstock Volleyball Club – we competing tough in the E Division! lol
Wednesday night was our first night on the court as a team! I have to say, we didn’t do too bad at all. We won 2 of 5 against Montana’s. We held our own pretty good; we did have a few spills and awkward moments but I’m happy report there were no broken bones and the ambulance was not required!
Though icepacks would be nice for my aching arms today!
On Sunday, I had the chance to take my daughter Addi; along with her BFF Ayla and my BFF (Ayla's mama) Sarah, to see Disney's Story for Three Fairytales.
The girls packed up their little princess purses; got all dolled up in their princess dresses with tiara's and wands to boot!
Addi was Belle and Ayla was Cinderella...in my opinion, the prettiest two princesses in the building!
The show was fabulous; Addi was frozen still with excitement and awe through the whole show. Unfortunately, the evil Queen in 'Snow White' did startle many children; it was a little intense for kids, but it was a lot of fun! The sight on my daughter's face when Cinderella walked out in her beautiful blue gown was priceless - she turned to me and said "mommy, I want that dress".
For now, her little yellow Belle dress will have to do.
This morning on the show, Dan was in for John and we talked about - of course - the conclusion of the World Junior Hockey Championships.
Canada left Finland in their dust and easily went on to win the bronze 4-0.
As for Russia; not really the same easy battle. In fact, the game went into overtime tied 0-0. Wow...talk about a yawn-fest for a gold medal game!!!! Seriously; I like some scoring and action, not a lack of shots on net and no goals!
Sweden though made it exciting when they scored in overtime to take the gold medal.
I came up with my list of why winning bronze is better then losing gold:
-you only have to watch one team get their medals
-you get to skate in celebrations rather then sulk in disappointment
-you don't have to listen to a national anthem you don't know
-and this year I don't have to watch the Russians celebrate and yell into the camera while all of us have to wonder why dental hygiene is not an issue to the Russian hockey team. That alone is a good reason.
